This is a late 16c Torah (the first 5 books of the Bible in scroll format). It comes from a Yemenite community likely originating in Yemen in the 1500s. The Torah is 24 m (79 ft.) in length. The skins are a dark red characteristic of Yemenite scrolls. The scroll was read, revered and protected for over 400 years. The number of Jews in Yemen has dwindled down to a few dozen. They had been evacuated and moved to Israel since WWII bring their scrolls with them. This is a testimony to the preservation of God’s Word and his people. One thing is certain; The scroll will continue to be a blessing to those who encounter it.
